Discover Burdeos: Sand, Sea & Surprises

On the eastern side of Polillo lies Burdeos, a laid-back town facing the vast Pacific Ocean. It’s a jump-off point to some of the most beautiful islands you’ll ever set foot on—each with its own character and adventure.

Start with the magical Luli Sandbar, a strip of sand that appears at low tide and vanishes when the waters rise. Then sail to Anilon Island, with its white-sand beach and the iconic Anilon Cave Cave, where a hole in the rock frames breathtaking ocean views.

For a bigger dose of wonder, head to Isla Puting Bato, where white limestone cliffs, secret coves, caves, and coral gardens rival Palawan’s best. And of course, don’t miss Burger Island (Binumbunan Island), affectionately named for its burger-like shape—a quirky stop that makes the trip even more fun.

Island-hopping in Burdeos isn’t just sightseeing—it’s an adventure that mixes serenity, thrill, and a touch of magic in every stop.

    Prelature Shrine of St. Joseph

Located in Barangay Poblacion, the Prelature Shrine and Parish of St. Joseph has served as the spiritual heart of Polillo since 1587, when the first church bells were rung, marking the beginnings of the town’s faith community.

Dedicated to Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary, its feast day on March 19 coincides with Polillo’s annual fiesta, when the streets come alive with the traditional Dapit procession—an uplifting display of devotion as images of patron saints from all barangays unite in honoring St. Joseph.

Built of enduring stone and brought to life by local craftsmanship, the church has grown alongside the town. In 2010, under the leadership of Bishop Rolando J. Tria Tirona, it was elevated to the status of Prelature Shrine, signaling its lasting importance in the region's religious life

    Polillo’s Living Coral Paradise

One of the best-kept secrets of Polillo Island lies just beneath its clear blue waters. Because locals still fish the traditional way—nets, lines, and spears—without resorting to destructive practices like dynamite fishing, the coral reefs here remain alive, colorful, and thriving.

What makes Polillo extra special is that you don’t need to go far offshore to witness this underwater wonderland. Just a few paddles from the beach, vibrant corals rise from the seabed, teeming with life and creating the perfect playground for snorkeling or diving.

Stretching between Polillo Island and the mainland town of Real and Infanta, Quezon, the sparkling waters of Lamon Bay cradle this marine paradise. Here you’ll find schools of reef fish darting in and out of the corals, and if you’re lucky, you might spot the island’s “star residents”—the famous clownfish (Nemo), often visible during low tide when the reef unveils more of its secrets.

Whether you’re an adventure seeker eager to dive or just a curious traveler wanting to snorkel near the shore, Polillo’s reefs promise an experience that’s vibrant, fun, and truly alive.

  • Polillo’s Festival Heartbeat

Polillo Island is more than a tropical escape—it’s a place where seasons set the rhythm of life, and festivals turn ordinary days into unforgettable celebrations.

Every summer, the island bursts with energy. The seas calm down, skies open wide, and it’s the perfect season for exploring Polillo’s hidden coves, sandbars, and islets. But Polillo’s spirit shines brightest during fiesta month in March, when the municipality of Polillo celebrates its patron saint. Streets come alive with parades, music, and dancing; families open their homes to guests; and no celebration is complete without the island’s pride—lambanog, the smooth yet fiery coconut spirit proudly made in Polillo. More than just a drink, it’s a symbol of togetherness, passed around from hand to hand, uniting locals and visitors in cheer.

And then there’s the Habagat season, when much of Metro Manila and nearby provinces are battered by rain and floods. Polillo, facing the Pacific, enjoys a peculiar gift—while storms rage elsewhere, the island often basks in sunshine. Days are bright, seas shimmer, and life goes on uninterrupted, as I once wrote in Habagat at Polillo Island. It’s like nature kept a little secret just for Polillo.

When the rains finally do arrive, they don’t wash away the island’s charm. Instead, the landscape turns greener and fresher, offering a more serene side of paradise.
